Kicking off the idea of a synth music studio as a live infinite canvas (or this)

Today we had a fun collaboration with Marian & Martin & Sergio. On what I hope is a series of open ended collaborations to explore ideas and share our craft.

Inspired by Jul 15th, 2024 - On sharing the journey we are going to try this approach

The grand vision

What if you could join a link on your browser and enter someones lil online studio. A place where together you can experiment and playfully create music.

I always struggled with my working memory so I’m particularly drawn to spatial organization.

I guess that’s why I love tldraw mission. They are building a top notch primitive for infinite canvas experiences on the web. And I wish almost everything I use on my computer had the quality of being organized in a spatial way (also probably why I love co-location in software).

Back to our synth idea, what if you could join an online studio that is an infinite canvas where each person lays out their lil modules in whichever way they want. Jamming together to create music.

This is how tldraw.com looks like, on their website. Where is being showcased as a whiteboard experience.

A quick sketch of what the studio could look like.

Imagine having a toolbox of instruments that you drag into the session, each instrument performs different sounds. Some easier to use some more complex.

Then each person that is online on the studio (session) can add small modules (instruments) and add new pieces to the song, think of it as a live jam session on the synths world.

The available modules would be a wide range of type of synths, from simple to use or with pre-loaded templates to more complex ones.
